#The reason why Mongolians have good eyesight

Mongolians are famous for their extraordinary eyesight. there is even a youtube clip explaining about their special visionary ability.

However, the people from that video tend to have narrower eyes like a kid from this picture. Isn’t it bit weird that people with thinner eyes tend to have better eyesight?

we call them eagles eyes, what is the reason they to have such extraordinary eyesight

In the animation Mulan, asain characters are depicted with the back end of their eyes lifted. In fact, this is not the general portrayal of asain face. Rather they tried to describe Mongolian fold

there are a lot of different types of mongolian folds

most of the times, along with  asian non double folded eyelids,   mongolian folds are connected towards the center of the face.

the fold is not only covering the center part of the eyes. Starting from the bottom eyelids, the folds are covering almost the half of inner upper eyelids as well.

But, how come this kind of covering eyes mechanism makes mongolians to have better eye sights?

This is because, the fold functions as a protection rather than a cover for eyes. Also this kind of thick fat also does a nice job protecting eyes.

Of cooruse, this is not a sole reason why they have good eye sights, but it is true that the fold is a big part of the reason for their magnificent eyesights.

we tend to misdiagnose the eyes covered with mongolian folds, resulting the absence of double eyelids as  blepharoptosis.

blepharoptosis is a symptom caused by the lack of power from the muscle of inner eyelash. This lack of tensity causes not being able to pull the end of eyelids.

Its different from Eyes simply without double eyelids. Its just that the fold is covering some part of the eyes, not that the power of the muscle has been weakend.

 

Because the skin on the upper side of the eyes does not fold for those who have the eyes without double eyelids, it results  sagging on skin.  The skin covering the upper eye functions as the chang in a cab , creating shades and protecting our eyes from foreign substances.

like the picture above, we perceive  odd eyes as having eyes varying in size . In fact it's not that the eyes have different size. It is just because for one eye, the person’s skin covers the upper side. It's not that the person is not intentionally opening one eye in a different way.

the reason why double eyelid surgery makes the eyes to look bigger is because the procedure lifts up both mongolian fold and the skin that has been covering the eyes.

It is not that the size of eyes were changed

in fact, double eyelids surgery and epicanthoplasty are getting rid of the functionality of  mongolian folds and non-double folded eyelid.

Therefore it is really important how we do the surgery safely and naturally.

so, Most importantly, we should not confuse the absence of double folded eyelid as blepharoptosis.
